Is ZIM Integrated A Buy After The Ex-Dividend Date? For more than a decade, the United States has sought to keep out of Syria's political debacle, seeing no viable partner. Islamist rebels' toppling of strongman Bashar al-Assad has forced a change of tune -- and a debate over just what US interests are. Donald Trump, who returns to the White House in little more than a month, on the eve of Assad's fall called Syria "a mess" and stated in his plain-speaking style that the United States should not be involved. Joe Biden's administration, after putting Syria on the backburner in a turbulent region, has offered a tacit rebuttal by stating that clear US interests are at stake -- including preventing Syria from fragmenting and avoiding a resurgence of the Islamic State extremist group. Steven Cook, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, said Trump's and Biden's statements could be combined and "together they make a kind of decent policy." The United States needs to address real concerns about the Islamic State group and Al-Qaeda but "as far as getting involved in arranging the politics of Syria, I think that no good can come from it," Cook said. Since the presidency of Barack Obama, the United States has walked a fine line on Syria that critics often derided as a non-policy. The United States questioned the legitimacy of Assad, demanding accountability for brutality in one of the 21st century's deadliest wars, but stopped short of prioritizing his departure due to suspicions about the main rebels. The Islamist movement Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which has now led Assad's ouster, traces its roots to Syria's Al-Qaeda branch and is considered a terrorist organization by the United States. Since Obama's time, the United States instead has allied itself in Syria with a smaller fighting force of the Kurdish minority -- over strenuous objections of neighboring Turkey, which backs HTS -- with a narrow mission to counter the Islamic State group. Some 900 US troops remain in Syria. Assad fell in a lighting surprise offensive as his protector Russia is bogged down in its invasion of Ukraine and after Israel's military heavily degraded Assad's other key supporters -- Iran and Lebanese militia Hezbollah. Robert Ford, the last US ambassador to Syria, helped spearhead the terrorist designation of HTS in 2012 but said that the group since then has not attacked US or Western targets and has instead fought Al-Qaeda and Islamic State forces. Ford also pointed with hope to post-victory statements by rebel chief Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, including welcoming international monitoring of any chemical weapons that are discovered. "Can you imagine Osama bin Laden saying that?" said Ford, now a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute. "I'm not saying 'trust Jolani.' He's obviously authoritarian. He's obviously an Islamist who doesn't believe that Christians have an equal right to power as Muslims. But I sure as hell want to test him on some of these things," Ford said. He said that the United States should encourage HTS, as well as other Syrian actors, to reach out and reassure the country's diverse communities including Christians, Kurds and Alawites -- the sect of the secular-oriented Assad. Beyond that, Washington should take a back-seat and let Syrians sort out their future, he said. "We should learn from the experience in Iraq that trying to impose exiles on a population traumatized by a brutal dictatorship and war is not a recipe for success," Ford said. Outgoing Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday offered US recognition to a future government that is "credible, inclusive and non-sectarian." Trump in his first term, at the urging of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, abruptly said he would pull troops out of Syria. He backtracked after intense criticism at home and appeals from French President Emmanuel Macron, who pointed to the risk of Islamic State filling the vacuum. Trump has not indicated how he would change Syria policy this time. But he has shown no reluctance in the past to negotiate with foreign adversaries on the US blacklist, from Afghanistan's Taliban to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said there was no legal restriction on US contact with designated terrorists, although he indicated there was no direct dialogue with HTS. Natasha Hall, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said Syria could face "devastating economic and humanitarian consequences" unless the United States reconsiders the terrorist designation of HTS, which impedes aid groups. "That said," she said, "if there isn't sort of an established framework for negotiations and good behavior now, before that designation is lifted, that could potentially also be a major mistake down the line for Syria's future." sct/smscasino game real money app

Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy Overview Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) is a serious brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen (hypoxia) and blood flow (ischemia) to the brain. It commonly occurs during birth, particularly in newborns, and can result from complications such as umbilical cord issues, placental problems, or prolonged labor. HIE can lead to brain cell damage and varying degrees of neurological impairment, depending on the severity and duration of the oxygen deprivation. Symptoms may include seizures, muscle weakness, developmental delays, and cognitive impairments. Early intervention, such as therapeutic hypothermia, may help reduce brain damage and improve outcomes for affected individuals. By MARY CLARE JALONICK and STEPHEN GROVES, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell fell and sprained his wrist while walking out of a GOP luncheon on Tuesday, the latest in a series of medical incidents for him in recent years. McConnell, who is stepping down from his leadership post at the end of the year, was walking out of his weekly party lunch with Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso when he tripped and fell, Barrasso said, before walking back to his office on his own. Medical personnel were seen heading into his office minutes later. The longtime Republican leader , 82, also has a cut on his face, his office said, but “has been cleared to resume his schedule.” He did not attend a scheduled news conference immediately after the luncheon. Barrasso, the No. 3 Senate leader and a doctor, said McConnell was “fine” and “100 percent” alert after he tripped and fell. His fall came after he was hospitalized with a concussion in March 2023 and missed several weeks of work after falling in a downtown hotel. After he returned, he twice froze up during news conferences that summer, staring vacantly ahead before colleagues and staff came to his assistance. McConnell had polio in his early childhood and he has long acknowledged some difficulty as an adult in walking and climbing stairs. In addition to his 2023 fall, he also tripped and fell in 2019 at his home in Kentucky, causing a shoulder fracture that required surgery. McConnell has been in the Senate since 1984 and has been Republican leader since 2007. South Dakota Sen. John Thune will become Senate majority leader next year when Republicans retake the majority. Associated Press writers Farnoush Amiri and Lisa Mascaro contributed to this report. Be civil. Be kind.SHE may be just 27 but Grace Beverley has a net worth of over £8million thanks to her multiple businesses. But now the Tala and Shreddy founder , who started doing side hustles as a teenager, has opened up about the errors she has made along the way. In a transparent post , the CEO revealed some ways that she wasted money as a young entrepreneur, to help other people keen to start their own businesses. In addition to her businesses, she has also launched a book and podcast - both called Working Hard, Hardly Working, and was featured on the Forbes 30 under 30 Europe list in 2020. However, she admitted that she spent too much on social media stars at the beginning. In a TikTok video, she explained: “I shouldn’t have spent so much money on influencers - until you’re established, work with 80 per cent ‘converting’ influencers and MAX 20 per cent ‘brand building’ (cool) influencers. “Converting influencers will actually drive sales rather than just add brand value (which is so important but not as important as staying afloat early on). “Ask to see their affiliate link data before going ahead to ensure they can actually sell! “Tbh I would avoid using influencers altogether until a few launches in and focus on gifting instead.” Her next tip was to not spend so much money sampling products before releasing them, and advised “done is better than perfect.” She said you can get feedback from people after you have launched which you will learn “so much” from. Grace said that she held events “WAY too early” to be necessary. She explained: “Events are a vanity project and good for building ‘brand’, but you can’t afford to focus on truly building brand until you have some cash. “So skip the events and put that money into ad spend until you have stronger cash flow.” The businesswoman said you should only invite influencers who convert and give them a discount code to walk away with for their followers. She added that events should be able educating them on the brand and not just getting a “meaningless tag” on Instagram . Grace said she should have avoided relying so much on social media and instead focused more on email marketing. She explained: “Automated email marketing will make you money IN YOUR SLEEP . “You will have customers come to your site, add something to their basket and then get distracted before checking out; automated CRM flows will remind that customer via email that they left something in their basket. “So many other flows too. “Think how many people you follow on ig and tt whose posts you never see - email is far far more effective and relies less on algorithms.” Another tip she had for new businesses is to secure all social media handles as soon as you know the name. RUNNING your own company is a monumental feat, but Grace Beverley has multiple on the go. The entrepreneur has a net worth of a whopping £8million. Shreddy Thanks to her loyal fan base following her fitness videos, Grace launched an app while at university. The fitness app Shreddy is filled with recipes, workouts, and a built-in community. Tala Grace added to her empire by creating a sustainable activewear brand, which she started in 2019 at 22. In its first year, she made £6million in sales. In 2022, she received £4.5million in investment to expand the business, and it now has 469,000 followers on Instagram The Productivity Method Skilled at time management, Grace started another hustle, selling planners. Her business flogs physical planners for £36, while her digital planners rise to £42. The website states: "Quite simply, we got fed up with planners that ask us how many sh**s we've had a day while not actually helping us to improve our productivity... so we set out to make productivity tools that *actually*, *genuinely* work!" Book On top of all this, Grace launched a book called Working Hard, Hardly Working in 2022. It "offers a fresh take on how to create your own balance, be more productive and feel fulfilled." Grace's book has proved to be a huge success and is a Sunday Times bestseller. Grace launched Shreddy, a fitness app while studying at the University of Oxford . Speaking to CEO Today Magazine, the businesswoman said: "I wanted to help simplify people’s fitness journeys and create products that helped make what can be a daunting, confusing process a lot easier. "I was in my first year at university, so I didn’t start in the same way I’d start a business now. "I released a digital product at first, then went into physical products after we spotted a gap in the market for accessible, cute gym accessories that made your gym experience that much better, whilst allowing you to create an affordable portable gym." Grace added "she'd be lying" if she said starting a business at a young age hadn't come with "challenges", but she claimed the key was to hire "a powerhouse of young women from all different backgrounds." But Grace didn’t stop there. In 2019 when she was 22, the entrepreneur decided to launch another business - an activewear brand called Tala. The Instagram star was already making a name for herself as a fitness influencer with her @GracefitUK account. In its first year, Grace made a whopping £6million in sales. However, she counts the real launch of the business in April 2021, after she severed ties with her initial manufacturing partner and licenser. She revealed to Vogue : “I haven’t talked about this much because at the time it was sensitive but having to rip it all down and start from scratch in order to build a brand with [longevity] was incredibly hard, it was incredibly expensive and incredibly tough emotionally. “It required a huge amount of conviction.” The previous business partners had wanted Tala to be an influencer brand, with sales driven by Grace’s account and “viral drops”. However, she hoped to build a long-lasting business model and invest in product innovation. She added: “Being an influencer merch brand is fine and it has its value. But capping the brand’s growth at myself and my own reach, where being an influencer actually isn’t even what I want to do, wasn’t what I wanted for my future or for the brand.” The relaunch paid off, as she received a £4.5million investment in 2022.

SEATTLE — A proposal for a Seattle tax on capital gains fell short Thursday for the second time this week, failing to secure majority support from the City Council. That means the city won’t enact Councilmember Cathy Moore’s 2% tax on investment-sale profits above $262,000 annually. In rebuffing the proposal, some of her council colleagues said the timing wasn’t right. The idea could resurface in the coming year and could stand a slightly better chance of passing then, because a council seat will change hands next week when recently elected Alexis Mercedes Rinck replaces Tanya Woo. “We will continue to have this conversation,” Moore said Thursday, making the case that Seattle will need additional revenue from well-off residents to balance its budget in the long term and to provide struggling residents with a robust social safety net. “It’s a conversation we can’t afford not to have.” The decision on the capital gains tax came Thursday alongside an 8-1 vote to formally adopt Seattle’s 2025 budget. The council passed a modified version of Mayor Bruce Harrell’s budget plan, agreeing to plug a general-fund deficit and increase spending on priorities like police largely by redirecting a chunk of JumpStart payroll tax revenue previously earmarked for affordable housing. Council President Sara Nelson backed the new budget, praising her colleagues for working with Harrell to focus on public safety. Councilmember Tammy Morales cast the only vote against it, saying she couldn’t endorse its cuts to jobs and programs, as well as its deficit-closing approach. The vote against Moore’s capital gains tax was 6-3. The proposal had received a 4-4 vote during a budget committee meeting Tuesday and had advanced to Thursday’s full council meeting with a “do not pass” recommendation. On Thursday, Moore, Morales and Dan Strauss voted yes. Nelson, Rob Saka, Maritza Rivera and Bob Kettle voted no. So did Joy Hollingsworth, who had voted yes Tuesday, and Woo, who had abstained Tuesday. Moore introduced her proposal this month after the Nov. 5 election saw Washington voters affirm a similar tax at the state level, rejecting a ballot initiative that sought to repeal it. The state’s tax passed the Legislature in 2021 and took effect last year after surviving a court challenge. It taxes profits from the sale or exchange of stocks, bonds and other investments, excluding retirement accounts and real estate. It initially applied to gains above $250,000 and is calibrated to grow with inflation. Moore, who represents North Seattle’s District 5, said her city tax would be identical to the state’s version, except with a 2% rate rather than 7%. She made her proposal part of the council’s budget deliberations, saying the revenue could be used to fund rental, homebuyer and food assistance. In opposition, Woo said a more thorough stakeholder discussion about the proposal was necessary. Nelson said Seattle residents want to see City Hall achieve results with existing revenue before raising and spending more. “I do think we need to build back public trust,” the council president said. In support, Morales described the tax as a responsible step to diversify the city’s revenue options. She said the council had an opportunity to show spending restraint this year and instead added to Harrell’s budget. Morales said she hoped Mercedes Rinck would bring “a different balance” to the council when sworn in. Mercedes Rinck defeated Woo in a special election on Nov. 5 and campaigned as an advocate for progressive revenue.1 How to get Hourglasses in Pokemon TCG Pocket 2 Best ways to get Hourglasses 3 Is buying Hour Glasses with Shop Tickets worth it? 4 When to use your Hourglasses Pokemon TCG Pocket is all about opening booster packs. However, getting more than your two free packs a day is important if you want to build strong decks. For that, you are going to need a lot of Hourglasses. In Pokemon TCG Pocket, players are allotted two free booster packs a day. Those who purchase the Premium Pass can get three, but this additional pack comes at the cost of $9.99 a month. For those wanting to crack a few booster packs open without the wait, you are going to need Hourglasses. This currency allows you to decrease the pack opening wait time by an hour for each Hourglass. Unfortunately, getting them isn’t easy. It is also tempting to use them right away, instead of saving them for an optimal moment. In this guide we are going to go over ways to grind Hourglasses in Pokemon TCG Pocket, and when to use them most effectively. How to get Hourglasses in Pokemon TCG Pocket Hourglasses are obtained in Pokemon TCG Pocket by completing log-in tasks, leveling up, participating in events, collecting free daily gifts, and finishing solo battle challenges. Best ways to get Hourglasses The best way to get hourglasses in Pokemon TCG Pocket is by completing daily tasks and doing the solo battle challenges . Daily tasks don’t offer a ton of hourglasses, but they are consistent and refresh daily. These are the lowest effort, though the grind requires more dedication. However, the best way to quickly grind Hourglasses is by completing the solo battle challenges up through Expert. First-time rewards for these battles offer up to seven hourglasses just for giving the challenge a go. By doing each one, you can rapidly stock up. However, it is important to note that once the battle rewards are collected, you can’t get them a second time. Is buying Hour Glasses with Shop Tickets worth it? Another way you can get Hourglasses is by purchasing them with Shop Tickets. However, this isn’t always worth doing . Related: Shop tickets can also be used to purchase Trainer cards needed for decks, accessories for the game, and Special Shop Tickets that offer rare cosmetics and extras. While those who battle and use Wonder Pick frequently will amass a decent number of Shop Tickets, think carefully before sinking them into Hourglasses. It costs 18 tickets to get six Hourglasses. If these all come from battling, that is 18 battles where the opponent decided to send a thank you after the match. This can be a slog to grind. When to use your Hourglasses The best time to use your Hourglasses is when new Pokemon TCG Pocket expansions are released . For example, Mythical Island will be available on December 17, 2024 , introducing highly anticipated cards to the current options. With plenty of players racing to get Mew ex , having a stockpile of Hourglasses on hand to avoid wait times will speed up access to new cards, and help mitigate defeat in PvP battles due to outdated deck strategies. With plenty of Hourglasses set aside, you’ll be sporting the newest Pokemon TCG Pocket pulls more quickly, allowing you to participate in any PvP events that might drop following the new expansions.(The Center Square) – U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Arizona, blasted U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Ur Jaddou for her agency approving illegal border crossers as sponsors for illegal border crossers. At a U.S. House Judiciary subcommittee hearing , Biggs also pointed out that the sponsors were found to be committing Social Security and other fraud under her watch. Biggs addressed rampant fraud in a program created by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for inadmissible citizens of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, who don’t qualify for admission into the U.S. Under Mayorkas, they were flown into the country through a CHNV parole program, used a CBP One phone app to apply for entry, and were released into the country. Part of the process requires having a “supporter” fill out an application on behalf of the CHNV parolee. While Mayorkas claimed app user parolees and supporters were thoroughly vetted, multiple Office of Inspector General reports disproved this claim, expressing security risks at airports. In August, flights of CHNV illegal border crossers were temporarily suspended after a USCIS internal review found that tens of thousands of CHNV fraudulent applications were processed. Supporters used fake Social Security numbers and phone numbers and listed the same physical address on nearly 20,000 applications, according to the report, The Center Square reported . Biggs asked Jaddou if she disputed the fact that supporters used the same Social Security Number on CHNV applications, which “happened at least 3,200 times. The same phone number used at least 3,300 times. The same supporter email address was used on applications nearly 2,000 times.” Jaddou said she didn’t have the report in front of her and didn’t dispute it. “You don’t really want to admit there’s this much rampant fraud,” he said. Biggs next cited examples of fraud that weren’t fixed. “The same exact 184-word response was used on more than 1,800 applications by nearly 194 CHNV supporters,” he said. “More than 460 nonexistent zip codes were used on supported applications on behalf of more than 2,800 CHV aliens. You can dance around and say you don't have the report in front of you, but these are the facts. This program is rife with fraud.” As of Aug. 6, DHS had approved more than 80,000 CHNV supporters for the program who were in the U.S. on a temporary basis. More from this section USCIS approved 224 CHNV parolees who were already in the country illegally as sponsors for CHNV parolees that came after them, meaning illegal foreign nationals were sponsoring illegal foreign nationals. USCIS also approved 28,322 illegal foreign nationals shielded from deportation through Temporary Protected Status as CHVN supporters; “19,865 SLEs approved as CHNV supporters, 311 DACA recipients approved as CHNV supporters, 1,300-plus aliens in the U.S. on temporary visas approved as CHNV supporters, 64 refugees approved as CHNV supporters, 19,112 conditional permanent residents approved this season as CHNV supporters,” he said. “That is the program that you are administering. I'm not talking the aliens. I'm not getting into the violation of law of the U.S. code 1182, which states that the use of parole is supposed to be a case-by-case basis.” Biggs said the supporter application process was so rampant with fraud that it was temporarily shut down but wasn’t fixed. The fraud is “still ongoing. We're waiting for the next report to confirm that these things are still going on,” he said. In addition to the USCIS report, a U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security investigation found that "as of mid-October 2023, there were 1.6 million inadmissible aliens awaiting travel authorizations through the CHNV program” and DHS was using 50 airports worldwide to fly them in, The Center Square reported . None flown into the country have a legal basis to enter the U.S. before being paroled through the CHNV program, DHS documents the committee obtained state. "All individuals paroled into the United States are, by definition, inadmissible, including those paroled under the CHNV processes," one of the DHS documents states. The CHNV parole program was among more than a dozen that House Republicans identified as illegal and cited as reasons to impeach Mayorkas. According to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection data , more than 852,000 illegal foreign nationals were processed and released into the country through the CBP One App and more than 531,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans deemed inadmissible were released into the country through the CHNV parole program, as of October. Under the Biden administration, more than three million illegal border crossers were reported from CHNV countries, The Center Square reported . Many have been directly linked to violent crimes committed against Americans, The Center Square reported .

But one practice is going the extra mile by offering coffee facial scrubs to its lawyers and staff in a push to reduce waste at its headquarters. The bags, he explains, “come with instructions on how to creatively reuse them, from making
