Pitt running back Desmond Reid and linebacker Kyle Louis were difficult to miss on the football field this season, and their names were equally prominent on the All-ACC football team revealed Tuesday on the ACC Network. Reid was a first-team selection as an all-purpose back and return specialist. Plus, he was named honorable mention at running back, his main position, where he led the Panthers in yards rushing (797). He averaged 150.9 all-purpose yards per game (sixth in the nation), and he led the ACC with an average of 12.3 yards per punt return (ninth in the nation). Louis was named first-team linebacker after collecting 150 voting points — the highest of any linebacker on the All-ACC team and 18 more than the second-highest vote getter. He compiled an impressive stat line with 96 tackles, 15 1/2 for a loss, seven sacks, four interceptions and a forced fumble. He also intercepted a pass on a two-point conversion attempt. The most recent FBS player to achieve that stat line was Utah consensus All-America linebacker Devin Lloyd in 2021. Reid and Louis were among five Pitt players named to the All-ACC team, joining safety Donovan McMillon (second team) and linebacker Rasheem Biles and kicker Ben Sauls (third team). McMillon had back-to-back 100-tackle seasons, getting 108 this season and 105 in 2023. He is the first Pitt player to do so since linebacker Scott McKillop in 2007 and 2008. Biles recorded 77 tackles, 14 1/2 for a loss, 5 1/2 sacks and an interception that he returned for a touchdown against Syracuse. He finished 10th in the nation wiht an average of 1.3 TFLs per game. Sauls led the team in scoring with 95 points while converting a nation-leading three field goals of 55-plus yards among his 18 on 21 attempts. He also was perfect on all 41 extra-point kicks. His five field goals of 50-plus yards represent a school record for a season and his 58-yarder ties Alex Kessman (2020) for the longest in Pitt history. Along with Reid, tight end Gavin Bartholomew, defensive tackle Nick James and wide receiver Konata Mumpfield received All-ACC honorable mention.

Swansea boss Luke Williams thought his side were second best for the majority of the contest despite earning a 2-1 win at Derby. The Swans stunned Pride Park into silence with less than two minutes on the clock when Zan Vipotnik sent a bullet past Jacob Widell Zetterstrom before Ronald slotted home his first of the season in the 14th minute. Cyrus Christie brought Tom Barkhuizen down inside the box and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing dispatched the resulting penalty to cut the deficit in half and, despite piling on the pressure, Derby succumbed to a second home defeat of the season. Williams told a press conference: “We started the game very well, we were good up until we scored the second goal then we lost the grip on the game and I thought Derby were the better team. “The next thing for us we have to be able to maintain that level throughout the game and we weren’t able to do that to be quite honest today. “They made it difficult, reacted very well after the second goal and didn’t go under, far from it.” Swansea leapfrogged their opponents into the top half of the table with their sixth win of the season and took three points back to south Wales following two last-minute defeats by Burnley and Leeds heading into the match. Williams added: “We’ve recently conceded late goals but they’re a very resilient group and we saw it out in the end. “We’ve dominated games a lot but probably failed to score when we’ve been that dominant and tonight we managed to score the goals when we were dominant. “We scored the goals at the right time today.” Derby had been unbeaten in their last three matches coming into this one but Paul Warne put defeat down to a poor start. He said: “We conceded two and didn’t get close enough, weren’t aggressive enough, not enough body contact and looked soft, that’s my fault. “Maybe I didn’t message it properly. Sometimes it doesn’t come down to shape and tactics but I thought that was what the difference was. “Credit Swansea for the win but after the 25 mins it looked like we would score. I really enjoyed it, that’s the truth. I had 70 minutes of a team giving everything, I don’t think we’ve had that many attempts in the Championship this season. “It’s a rude awakening, last year we would’ve won that 4-2.”Gambler bets $2.50 on slot machine — then hits big jackpot at Las Vegas casino

Aaron Rodgers is feeling healthy and will be the New York Jets' starting quarterback as long as that remains the case. Whether he's in the huddle beyond this season is still to be decided — by the Jets and Rodgers. “Football life is interesting because there’s no guarantees,” Rodgers said Wednesday. "Even with injuries, obviously, with contract situations, with age, with coaching changes, new scheme possibly, new system. There’s a lot of unknowns, so that stuff is out of my control. “I’m just going to enjoy these times here and let the future take care of itself.” Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Rodgers returned from the team's bye-week break appearing physically refreshed and ready to go. The quarterback was not on the Jets' injury report Wednesday for the first time since Week 4. “Definitely, as long as he’s healthy, my plan is to play him,” Ulbrich said. “And I know talking to him, that’s the way he wants to do it, too.” Rodgers, who turns 41 on Monday, has dealt with various injuries to his left leg, including a sore knee, sprained ankle and balky hamstring. And that’s after coming off a torn Achilles tendon in the same leg that limited him to just four snaps last season. “He’s doing better today than he has for quite a while now,” Ulbrich said. “After my conversations with him the last five or six weeks, he has felt healthier today than he’s felt in that time span.” That echoes what Rodgers said during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, when he said he “feels good.” Rodgers said he's still contemplating whether he wants to play football next season, but would prefer it be with the Jets if he does return. He reiterated that Wednesday after practice and explained why his tone has changed a bit from a few weeks ago when he said “I think so, yeah,” when he was asked if he planned to play next year. “If you look at what transpired in those two weeks, Joe (Douglas) got axed,” Rodgers said, referring to the Jets' former general manager who was fired last week. "Joe brought me in here. There’s uncertainty with, you know, everybody on the staff, so I’m not naive to what the situation is. And if a new GM comes in and they don’t retain Brick, I have to fit in those plans, so that’s kind of the first part. “Like I said, on ”The Pat McAfee Show," this is my first option. I’d love to play here if I end up deciding to play. But there’s got to be a want for them to want to bring me back, and for me to want to play. But ‘I think so’ was the truth, and ‘I’m not 100% sure’ is also the truth today." Rodgers, who is having a subpar season statistically, has been noticeably affected by his leg ailments — and that's something that could be much improved starting Sunday against Seattle. “I’m super excited about getting him going, whether it’s the keepers, the boots, a little bit more quarterback movement,” Ulbrich said. “Taking advantage of the stuff that he’s done at a Hall of Fame level his entire career. So, excited to see a healthier version of Aaron out there.” There was some speculation that the Jets, who are 3-8 and close to falling mathematically out of the playoff hunt, could opt to sit Rodgers in favor of Tyrod Taylor with his playing future uncertain. “He is a very prideful person,” Ulbrich said. “He wants to finish this thing off right. He wants to celebrate this team that we have and have a good taste in our mouths as we leave this season.” Rodgers has been very complimentary of Ulbrich as a leader, saying he's “definitely all-in” on the interim coach and would like to see him get the full-time job for next season. “Again, that’s out of my control,” Rodgers said. "I mean, I’m not going to say Brick or nothing. I need to see how I’m feeling. Obviously, I would love to play for Brick again. He’s a fantastic human being, but there’s a lot of things that can change in the next six weeks. “There could be some really good feelings coming out of this or there could be wholesale changes — and I might be a part of that.” Those changes could include two coaches Rodgers is closest with in offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and passing game coordinator Todd Downing. “Them not being here would not be a deal breaker for me,” Rodgers said, “although I obviously love them.” Owner Woody Johnson is using The 33rd Team, with former GMs Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman leading the project, to identify and analyze candidates for the Jets' coach and GM searches. Rodgers is unsure if Johnson will seek his input on those decisions. “I’m always available if my opinion is wanted, but I’m going to focus on playing right now,” Rodgers said. “If I get drawn in those conversations, fantastic. If I don’t, that’s fantastic, too.” ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl Dennis Waszak Jr., The Associated PressThere is always a team shopping and hanging out in the trade market. In the NBA, that team is the Los Angeles Lakers (10-7). The Lakers are always a team that looks to improve their roster with the possibility of trading for a superstar or a key role player. This year is no exception based on how NBA trade rumors they are consistently in. They are reportedly shopping around the expiring contracts of point guard D’Angelo Russell and guard Jalen Hood-Schinfino to another team between now and February between the NBA Trade Deadline ends. Lakers may want to move on from Russell Russell’s second stint with the Lakers has been a roller coaster with the ride set to reach a disappointing conclusion. He came on after the Lakers decided to move on from their previous failed experiment at point guard in Russell Westbrook before the trade deadline in the 2022-2023 season. In the 17 regular season games played after traded to the Lakers, Russell was a high-volume and efficient shooter. Last season, Russell had good performances, but was terrible defensively and often played with poor effort. He was given coaching by first-year J.J. Redick and was called out publicly for lack of full effort. He is also having his worst season with the Lakers since re-joining the team. Russell is averaging 11.5 points shooting a field-goal percentage of 38.2% and a three-point shooting percentage of 28.1%. He is in the last year of a two-year; $36 million contract. What moves could the Lakers make? Russell will be a good pitch to a team that needs a tenacious shooter needing a new environment and an expiring. Russell would likely be paired with Hood-Schifino. He is in the final year of his contract after the Lakers declined his $4.06 million option for next season. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, and has only played one game this season. The biggest is who would the Lakers be interested in? The team has been in the rumor mills of a potential trade with the Atlanta Hawks for young star point guard Trae Young for the longest time. Young has been rumored to go to the Lakers to play with LeBron James for so long that it feels forced. The Lakers have tried different times to get James the perfect point guard, but have failed because he is the point forward. Other potential moves could be with the Chicago Bulls for either guard Zach LaVine or center Nikola Vucevic. LaVine would be a great off-ball fast player to match with James. Vucevic, on the other hand, would Anthony Davis happy as Davis would rather play the power forward position than at center. These two teams have been at the discussion the most with the Lakers as it could finally happen this season. This article first appeared on NBA Analysis Network and was syndicated with permission.
